Public Education The Race Equality Centre works with all communities to encourage campaigns on specific local, regional and national race equality and race relations issues.
TREC's activities include working with the media on campaigns against extremist political activities and working with public bodies and service users to enhance consultation in line with the statutory Equality Duties on race and showcasing good practice in the implementation of the statutory duties.
TREC undertakes research and education into race equality matters. Areas to date have included:
Sports The barriers to participation in mainstream local leagues and clubs for racial minority women and men with recommendations to overcome same
Young People Plain Sailing or Uphill Struggle – the different outcomes in transition to adulthood for racial minority young people
Community and Faith Based organisations Mapping exercise of the voluntary sector social welfare service provision
New Arrivals needs The extent to which community facilities provide services to newly arrived Somali communities.
Employment Identification of barriers in Public Sector recruitment practices.
Health Needs Assessments Currently research into the requirement for appropriate access to health services and education for new arrival communities
Regional Equality and Diversity Deliver workshops, host conferences, produce publications to raise awareness of VCS organisations in the region of the equality implications of local, regional and national public policy initiatives.
Black History Season Facilitate and hosts lectures and other educational activities to raise awareness of the forgotten history of Black people in Britain and elsewhere.
E-bulletins Disseminating information by electronic means detailing contemporary race relations and race equality issues.
Hosting International Delegations Providing educational opportunities for governmental delegates from European and other nations.
